Eleven University of the Philippines
Los Banos (UPLB) students are preparing a policy paper to help for the strategic development of Alaminos, Pangasinan. It is part of the UP Good Governance Initiative (UP GGI) Program.
The first leg of UP GGI’s
training was held on September 29-30, 2012 at Alaminos City.
Upon approval of the paper, the team will undergo the immersion process
during the semestral break for the implementation of their policies. The group will be given ₱50,000 by the UP GGI Committee.
The UPLB
team was equipped with technical knowledge on administration and governance through
trainings and workshops, following the “Bridging Leadership” curriculum
developed by Asian Institute of Management (AIM).
Former
San Isidro, Nueva Ecija Mayor and current head of the Union of LocalAuthorities of the Philippines (ULAP) Sonia Lorenzo mentored the fellows during
the first leg of training. The two-day event was hosted by the local government
of Alaminos, under Mayor Hernani Braganza.

UP GGI
is a program of the UP Diliman – University Student Council (UPD-USC), and the
National College of Public Administration and Governance – Student Council
(NCPAG-SC), in collaboration with UCs from UP Manila and UP Los Banos. It aims
to bridge the gap between the youth sector and the local government units
(LGUs) in participatory governance to attain national development.
The
Board of Adviser for the program consists of ULAP, National Organization of Bridging Leaders (NOBLE), and National Youth Parliament Alumni Association (NYPAA).
