11 UPLB Students To Implement Policies in Alaminos

Eleven University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) students are preparing a policy paper to help for the strategic development of Alaminos, Pangasinan. It is part of the UP Good Governance Initiative (UP GGI) Program. 

The first leg of UP GGI’s training was held on September 29-30, 2012 at Alaminos City.

Upon approval of the paper, the team will undergo the immersion process during the semestral break for the implementation of their policies. The group will be given ₱50,000 by the UP GGI Committee.

The UPLB team was equipped with technical knowledge on administration and governance through trainings and workshops, following the “Bridging Leadership” curriculum developed by Asian Institute of Management (AIM).

Former San Isidro, Nueva Ecija Mayor and current head of the Union of LocalAuthorities of the Philippines (ULAP) Sonia Lorenzo mentored the fellows during the first leg of training. The two-day event was hosted by the local government of Alaminos, under Mayor Hernani Braganza.

UP GGI is a program of the UP Diliman – University Student Council (UPD-USC), and the National College of Public Administration and Governance – Student Council (NCPAG-SC), in collaboration with UCs from UP Manila and UP Los Banos. It aims to bridge the gap between the youth sector and the local government units (LGUs) in participatory governance to attain national development.

The Board of Adviser for the program consists of ULAP, National Organization of Bridging Leaders (NOBLE), and National Youth Parliament Alumni Association (NYPAA).

Effective Google Searching: A Surprisingly Useful Tool

Google is the most popular site on the internet. It plays different roles in our daily lives: If you don't know where to it, if you want to know the latest trends in fashion, if you need answers to your assignments, just Google it!

Due to these, Google has now become a powerful tool for finding information anywhere, anytime! Unlike old times where you have to go to the nearest library and consults books, this time, it is easier. With Google, we will now have all the infos we need with just one click. Amazing, right?

Especially to students like me where part of the learning occurs through the cyber world! During this time of technology, our lives just got easier. Thanks to Google.

My personal favorite is the Scholarly Search feature for it allows us to easily navigate though helpful literature in our studies.

Because Google Searching is a serious business.

Search engines, considering the fact that their contents all came from the same source - the Internet, have differences. Their differences vary on the way they gather information or results making some search engine s more effective than others.

Word order can alter the results of the search. It can also be taken in different context. To be sure, for maximum performance of the search engine, we have to take into consideration the word order.
